Oral health issues are significant in India since the country has one of the highest rates of oral cancer in the world. Dental diseases in India are result of factors such as poor oral hygiene, tobacco use and sugary diet. Additionally, the lack of awareness and the importance of dental health in India leads to the prevalence of dental health issues.
To spread awareness of oral health care and to provide dental check-up camps at the community doorstep, supported by American India Foundation and Dr. Nammy Patel, Dental Hygiene Program was implemented in the year 2020-2021 and focuses on facilitating affordable, accessible, and equitable oral health care in Amreli district of Gujarat.
Its key interventions included dental hygiene awareness campaigns with Anganwadi and school children in partnership with ICDS and schools, dental Bal-melas and dental check-up camps in government primary and secondary schools, and preventive and primary curative dental camps for community members.
- The partnership project created dental hygiene awareness and dental check-ups among 3007 children and 3527 community members to support their preventive and primary curative dental treatments in Amreli district by covering 40+ villages.
