Walk for Her: marking International Women's Day at Lathi

Women walking together through Lathi during the Walk for Her event

On International Women’s Day 2025, the Ashirvad Foundation organised Walk for Her at Lathi as part of its outreach work, with SSKK supporting the mobilisation.

The format is simple on purpose. Women walk together, in public, through the middle of town. It is a health awareness event, and it is also a claim on public space — in a place where a large group of women assembling for their own reasons is not an everyday sight.

Conversations on the walk covered preventive care, screening, and where to go when something is wrong. For a good number of participants, it was the first time they had discussed those subjects outside their own household.

Awareness events do not, on their own, change health outcomes. What they do is make the next thing possible: when a screening camp arrives in the same town three weeks later, the women already know what it is for and turnout is higher.
